There are a lot of social media sites to choose from, but it doesn’t mean you have to be on every single one of them. Each has its unique purpose, and some do better for promoting your business. Here are our recommendations for which social media platforms to invest your time in:

Twitter is a big name, but unless you have time to constantly maintain your account, we say forget this one. Twitter moves so quickly that posts typically have a short shelf life and don’t make as big of an impact as you would hope.

To build your online presence, we suggest starting with Facebook and Google+. These platforms are great at building relationships and generating new leads. You can share all types of content, whether it’s beautiful photos or informative blog posts. And though Facebook may be the most popular, Google+ still has its advantages. For one, Google loves it when you use their products. Everything you post is immediately indexed by Google and can have a positive impact on where you rank in search results.

But keep in mind, you should be doing all this on a business page, not your personal accounts. If you need help setting up a Facebook business page or a G+ business page, we have a couple videos to show you how. If you have the bandwidth to incorporate more social platforms into your business strategy, consider Instagram, Pinterest, or LinkedIn.

Instagram and Pinterest are highly visual platforms, so that’s a great place to share photos, showcase your brand’s personality, and connect with people in a different way. And if used in the right way these channels can even bring in new leads. LinkedIn can be great for recruiting new talent and networking with other industry professionals.

So there you have it. Facebook and Google+ should be your priority, but have fun exploring other social channels if time allows.
